There are a number of different opinions when it comes to exercise during pregnancy - some doctors urge it and yet others still suggest a pregnant women refrain from any sort of "strain" or "exercise". My doctor strongly urged exercise, but I do have friends who were told not to do various types of exercises, and have friends-of-friends whose (old school) doctors told them to stop doing any and all exercises.
A new study now suggests that women get at least 150 minutes of "moderate-intensity" aerobic activity per week during pregnancy and the postpartum period, with those 150 mintues spread throughout the week.
This new study has led to the goverment's release of new guidelines, the guidelines during pregnancy and the postpartum period are in Chapter 7.
