I know a lot of runners get fidgity during a taper because they get all that pent-up energy and are just itching to run. I am not itching to run ... but am fidgity just because of the slightly psychotic thoughts running through my head. Luckily last night I didnt have tv-inspired thoughts of being a time-traveller or source of government secrets, and slept pretty well. So I thought I would wake up today feeling better but I still feel a bit crazy. I am tying hard to to think too much about SUNDAY - but everyone keeps putting it in my face :) Friends and family asking me about the plan for Sunday, emails from RunnersWorld with tips, emails from Team in Training mail-lists with people asking about singlet decorations and race strategies...its all Marathon all the time. I know this is to be expected, but occasionally I can be highly excitable so I like to ignore the obvious until the last minute so that I dont have a hissy-fit. It appears this is one of those times I will simply not be able to do so. Instead, I need to think of each day as it comes. So here goes todays strategy:
Un-Official 4 Days Pre-Marathon Strategy
- Cut down on the sugar (especially since I have been overdoing it lately). This starts with a regular latte in the morning ... instead of one with syrup! Baby steps...
- Teach my class. Try to keep kids awake for a whole 50 minutes.
- Go to Pilates. Try not to injure myself.
- Easy 40 minute run. Try not to injure myself.
- Go to Costco for dog food and dog treats. The food prevents the dog from starving: the treats prevent the dog from forcing me to play with her constantly, thus reducing situations in which I might injure myself.
- Print out confirmation ticket, put with my race-day clothes so I dont forget
- Stay away from tv that makes me delusional
Non Marathon-Related Stuff
If nothing else good comes out of this whole experience, I am pleased to say I appear to have spread a little motivation within the family. My mom has signed up for a 5K walk,
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. In addition, she is
fundraising!
My sister recently completed her first 8K - and has
started blogging! She isn't blogging about running ... but its a start, right? :)

I really only have one piece of advice and that's enjoy the race. You've worked really hard to get there, so just enjoy it...I think that made my first more memorable than many folks because I was just happy to be doing it.
