Independence Day

Its the 4th of July - Independence Day - and the city was packed with tourists and locals extatic that the threat of rain never panned out. We spent the day at Jeff's cousin's (Danny) birthday party. Of course a birthday party means only one thing ... food! So in addition to celebrating the exciting event of Danny's birthday, we celebrated an excuse to eat :) Hamburgurs, brats, potato salad, fruit, candy and (of course) cake. We head home to beat the traffic rush and went up to our rooftop to watch the local town fireworks. We dont have a close view of any specific fireworks, but over the treetops we can see about 50 different towns celebrations. Some of them are pretty clear - they are big, high and reach over the treetops; others we can barely see. Its pretty great to sit up there on a nice night like this and just check out the view.

Training Log
Time:  28:55 minutes  Distance:2.86 miles   Pace:  10:07min/mi Today would generally have been a team mid-week workout, but with the holiday we were on our own. I scheduled a route that would take me about 30 minutes at my 10:30 pace and head out early this morning to run. I felt like I was going a bit faster, and actually think I should probably be picking up my pace during the week to push myself on my training more. I did go faster (10:07 vs 10:30) so I feel a bit better about slacking earlier during the week ;) My knees are still hurting, and so are the muscles on the outside of my knees...it feels tight or a bit pulled on the outside of my right calf. I think I am going to do another run tomorrow but then take Friday off so that I can rest during the day for the 10 miler on Saturday! The current weather forecast is hot and steamy - so Saturday is gonna be tough.
Progress Made
  • Pick up the pace a bit on my weekday run!
Lessons Learned
  • I am still having some issues with pain in my knees and some sort of muscle problems, so I need to figure out whats up before it gets worse later in training.
