Confirmation: I'm Sick

So I woke up today with a stuffy nose, sore throat, and an earache. Sheesh! I bundled up my sick kid and the two of us headed to Target to pick up some things, including some OJ. Now I'm that bad mother who takes her kid out on a 7 degree day to get herself some orange juice (hey, at least it wasnt a beer run).

Since then my nose has cleared, but my throat and ears are not cooperating. I'm hoping since it started early in the week I'll be feeling better by the weekend. I'm actually not too worried about running the race with a cold, like Bethany + Ryan said, I figure once I get going all the sinusy stuff will clear up and I'll feel better than ever. I am worried about the rest of this week and the flight though :( Its cold and snowing here (AGAIN). My right ear drum hurts so bad I just spend 30 minutes googling to figure out if I could have pierced it. Do I try to run this week? Will running make me feel better? Will it make it worse? And how bad does a flight suck when you are sick? Pretty bad :( So I certainly hope to avoid that if I can ...

I think I'm in the early stages of this cold - though the ear really hurts the other stuff isnt so severe. I'm still hoping it will pass mildly. Brooke has it pretty good, but I can tell hers is all up in her head too. Now I worry that maybe she has an earache just like I do and I feel like an even worse mother. Poor thing :(

So I'm sitting here with my glass of OJ trying to figure out how to fix this. I got suggestions for hot tea and Listerine (not together). Any other ideas?

Bummer :(

If you have an earache you need antbiotics. Get to the doctor soon and get a prescription.

Take care!

Sorry to hear that...hope it goes away soon! The only think my mom always tells me is lots of fluid and rest.

Every good running plan includes a taper - I think you'd be far better off not running (until the race) and resting and recuperating. I swear by mucinex-D for congestion and getting that crud out, esp. if your ears are plugged. And I bet the sunshine will work wonders too! Hope you're feeling better by Sunday!!!

(I had to laugh - not 'cause you're sick - but about yesterday's post where you were worried about getting sick and thinking it was hypochondriasis. Yesterday, at work, a patient came in for just some routine follow-up and then mentioned, "oh, by the way, I have a fever and my whole body aches, it just started today - that's not why I'm here, but I thought I'd mention it." UGH. I was paranoid all day yesterday that I was going to get the flu right before my trip. So far, just a runny nose, courtesy of my kids. =))

Rest rest and more rest! No running til the race or maybe 2-3 miles fri or sat if u feel u must run. B/w the sunshine, warm air and running you'll be feeling pretty good this weekend! The BEST advice at this point?? Don't let the fact that u r sick get to u mentally. You'll be fine! Can't wait to see how u do and read ur race report!
