10 Miles + Freezing Temps = 4 Miles

Its still freezing cold in Chicago. I waited until the warmest part of the day, which was a "feels like" 4 degrees and went out for a run with fellow Winter Warrior, Patti. We did 4. Not quite the 10 suggested for this weekend, but its cold out there! I figure 4 is more than 0, so its good enough ;)

Out of guilt, I registered for the 2010 Shamrock Shuffle. So I'll make up the missing miles on March 21st :)

Running Log
Time:42:28   Distance:3.99mi   Pace:10:38

Splits:
1 11:10
2 10:14
3 10:49
4 10:19

My run today made me think about my return to running last year (2009) in the lovely Chicago winter. At one point I was barely doing two miles, and on one particular evening (the very first run of my scheduled training for the 2009 Shamrock Shuffle) I thought I was going to have to get my finger amputated due to frostbite. I survived, and I am sure part of that whole episode was an over reaction. Anyway, I started running back in weather not much different than this. I double checked and the temps that night were a "feel like" zero. Four degrees different than I head out in today. I felt much stronger, confident I could do more than 2 miles, and didnt find the cold to be that unbearable (though at one point, my finger was numb again!).

Starting off 2010 by skimping on runs already ... but knowing that it will all be ok in the end.

You are a much better person than me because I can not get out to run in our 25+ weather :-) I am from Arizona so I am not used to the cold!!! Great pace on the run though :-)

I love it when 10 = 4! Yesterday, 8 = 3 for me :)

I would love to do the Shamrock Shuffle. :) Ha! Remember how snowy last year's was? (I only heard about it)

That is so cold! We have had "very cold for Houston" temps here and man, it is tough to get used to. It is slowly getting back to normal. Kudos to the 4 mile run!

On a side note, Brooke has always been my girl's name should I ever have one...it is not looking too promising..I have 3 boys! Not sure if 4 will be in our future or not!
