How Dare You DirectTV!

When we moved into the new house, Jeff and I had some serious dilemma choosing between Comcast (who we had in the old place) or DirectTV. We went with DirectTV. The experience has not been horrible, but we have definitely enountered some problems that were definitly not a part of the Comcast problem-set.
Mis-synched lips
Many times we are watching a show and the lips and sound dont match. Its about the most annoying thing I have ever experienced in my life.
Lost Signal
This is common for satellite users, but seems to be more frequent for us. We had some rain this morning (not a storm) and my signal is out. Normally I dont watch tv during the day so I wouldnt have even noticed...but today is a really gloomy day and I decided it was a "movie-day". I scrolled through the listings and Chocolat was coming on at 12:10. I have never seen the movie, but remember it generated a lot of Oscar buzz when it first came out. Also, how could any movie about chocolate be bad???

I decided to get some housework done until the movie started...then went to put it on at 12:10 and wouldnt-ya-know, the satellite is out. JEEZ!

The Real Issue
It appears we might have a problem with our satellite box, not the actual service. (Thats what we have heard at least) When the service was out just a few minutes ago I just "reset" the system and now its back up. I missed the first 9 minutes of the movie ... but what really happens in the first 9 minutes anyway? Regardless of whether we have bunk equipment or DirectTV simply hates me, its just another annoyance in my life that just chaps my hide.

We have Comcast, and have never had issues with the cable. Of course, we have the most basic package people can have so very little could potentially go wrong.

One issue is your dish might not be pointed right. If it is off a bit, you might get enough of a signal on a clear day, but a few clouds may kill it. We had this issue with Dish network. One of the satelites only was registering a "75" on the reception scale. We got them to send the service person back and the re-pointed the dish. Now only if there is a SERIOUS thunderstorm do we lose the signal.
