Sunday, my official day of rest!
I spent the day doing all things not related to running: checked out Harry Potter, went and got a Brownine Sundae, got some Starbucks, went to dinner with friends, and then went out for another evening coffee. PERFECT!
Harry Potter was great - but it was slightly different than the book. For those that are "fans", in the past the books and movies have been carbon copies of the other - with the movie simply taking the story of the book and brining it to life. I think as the books get longer, the movies cant include all of the details and story-lines, so some things get cut or left out. While this movie still told the story, there were things I rememberd in the book being notably absent from this movie. I think this trend will continue in the future, as these books keep increasing in size! To tell the whole story, I think you would actually need to make a five hour movie - and even the most avid Harry Potter fan isnt going to sit through that!
Last Week
Even though I didnt do all of the recommended runs (or time lengths of runs) for last week, I still ran almost 24 miles during the week. While that may seem like a lot (and it definitly is for me!) ... I didnt even run the marathon distance in a whole weeks time! At one point, I have to run MORE than I did all last week in one day. And, thats without the eating, sleeping and resting I get to do between each of these runs. Wow. While that seems impossible - each week I think that the distance run on Saturday is going to be imposslble, yet I complete each run and live to tell about it. For the next two weeks we cut back a bit on our Saturday runs, first a 10-miler and then a 90-minute timed run (which at my pace will be less than 9 miles)...so I am looking forward to the upcoming long runs. After our two "easy" runs though, we pump it up to 16 MILES! Hmmm...lets not quite think about that yet.
Today
My knees still hurt from Saturday. I get occasional shooting pains, and they are definitly sensitive to the touch. I am opting not to run today, but I am going to head to the gym in a minute or two to do the elliptical and some strength training. I also need to get on a program of doing all of the excercises and stretches the personal trainer gave to me. So I will make sure to do them today, but more importantly I need to keep doing them every day. Perhaps if I had done them on Saturday and on Sunday, my knees would not be still bothering me today? (Guess I will never know!)
