A Sleepless Night :(

Yesterday my knee bothered me all day, I concentrated on resting and working on the paper I have due at the end of the month. I have a lot on my plate right now with this paper and my comprehensive exams, in addition to training. I also have some issues with insomnia - and last night I got it good! All night I didnt sleep a wink, with concerns over my paper running through my head. I also kept thinking about running - the route I would do today, how Saturday would go, how I am going to manage making up for a run when I am out of town the first weekend in June. Its all silly worries - but thats all I need to set me off. So after no sleep, it took a bit to motiate myself for todays run!

This weekend
This weekend is a huge rivalry in Chicago - Cubs vs Sox. As a season-ticket holder, I have tickets for Sundays game - but I also have a family barbeque to go to. I wanted to go to the game, but since its on a Sunday its not as big of a deal. Also, if I go to the barbeque I can hit up my family members for donations! Even though I will not be at the game, my thoughts will be with the CUBS! Go CUBS!

Training Log
Time:  38.25 minutes  Distance:3.73 miles   Pace:  10:18min/mi
Although today was a 30 minute run, I decided to do 40 instead. After Wednesday's run I felt like I needed to make up some time and distance...and was hoping to have an overall good run to make up for it. My knee hurt during my whole run, and I was sure it would have been slower than when I ran the exact same route on Monday. Suprisingly I ran it over a minute faster than last time - even though I am pretty sure I was limping a bit during it. At the end of the run I couldnt even bend my leg (which was how it was on Wednesday). I have been icing it, and need to definitely ice it another time or two tonight or else tomorrows run is not going to be a good one!
Progress Made
  • Again my pace was faster, in fact, it was even faster than I had averaged during my horrible run on Wednesday!
  • I remembered to wear my other shoes again ;)
Lessons Learned
  • The knee was an issue throughout the whole run. The traininer mention the possibility of heating prior to runs which I think I need to look into. While I understand it hurting at the end just due to abuse, I dont think I should start off running with pain - so heat might help me in the morning?
