These Tantrums Are Stealing My Thunder

I thought I was in the middle of a comeback. I had the kids synced up for a nice, long afternoon nap and was getting to run (and shower!) regularly. Things were looking up. Then, the tantrums began.

Brooke has been having tantrums daily, actually 2-3X daily, for the past two weeks or so. She always has one before nap and one before bed, and occasionally throws one into the middle of the day for good measure. While she is screaming, yelling, threatening, and trashing her room, I cant exactly hop on the treadmill. I "ignore" her, but need to play close attention so that she doesnt hurt herself (or someone/something else). During her tantrums, her brother is fast asleep. She generally passes out about the same time he wakes up. There goes my running and "me time".

Today I thought we were golden. She was in a pretty good mood going up to nap. I thought we were in the clear. But after books were read and I was ready to leave the room ... it started. And an hour later she finally fell asleep. I was hoping that maybe the little guy would take a long nap since his AM nap was cut a bit short, so I hopped on the treadmill and hoped for some good luck.

Nope, not today.

He woke up 1/2 mile into my run. So I got a whopping 1/2 miler in today. I'm not even sure thats better than nothing. My time probably would have been better spent doing laundry ;)

On a similar note. Once the tantrums started and my running opportunities got killed, I finally contacted my old personal trainer. I meet with her tomorrow AM!

I am right there with you! My 2-year-old has been throwing random tantrums constantly too for no reason. And now her thing is standing up in her stroller while we're out running screaming to get out and run herself. Makes for a difficult time - I feel your pain!!

Ah, yes, yesterday Norah had two tantrums: one public, the other private. Never fun. Sorry it's interfering with your running!

Oh man, so not fun. Hopefully this phase passes quickly!
