I put on my running stuff and we grabbed the dog to head to the beach. In the car she was pacing and crying, and when we got near the beach she started to go nuts. We havent been since last year, so you wouldnt think she knew what was up. Either she was just excited to be going somewhere - or she could smell the water :)
We get there and had to park a bit away from the beach. As the attempted to plow her way through Memorial Day picknickers, other dogs, trees, and small children - we knew bringing her was the right idea. This dog had some energy to burn. Before entering the park, I pulled out her ball. Wrigley has an obesession with tennis balls - and while we often have difficulty getting her to listen to us (especially with other dogs around) when we have a ball in our hands she is full attention. So we walk into the park, which is a sectioned off area of the beach for dogs only - there are 100's of dogs running around and people everywhere. Wrigley has eyes only for her ball. We walk about 1/4 of a mile to the opposite end of the park in order to get away from the major crowd. The whole time Wrigley is circling Jeff, drooling, trying to snatch the ball out of his hand. All of a sudden she looks to her right and notices WE ARE AT THE BEACH. She seriously didnt know, thats how into her ball she is. She forgets about us, and the ball, for a second - and plows towards the water, as if just to make sure it was real. After wading in about chest deep and affirming her suspicions (Yup, its water) she comes back for the ball :)
We played for about 40 minutes and then a dog came along and snatched her ball and ran. There are tennis balls all over this beach and you wouldnt think it would be a big deal, but Wrigley is VERY PARTICULAR about her balls. She always wants HER ball. So we tried to throw her some other ones and it wouldnt work. They werent the right ball. Basically, our play session was cut early and you could see the heartbreak in her eyes. She had a blast, but she wasnt done yet. I looked all over the beach and couldnt find her ball, so we have suffered a terrible loss today. TRAGIC.
We walked back to the car with our depresseed and sulking dog, toweled her off and put her in. Poor thing. Jeff and Wrigley drove home, and I ran home. Two birds with one stone :)
Homework Time
Took a shower and fed the beast (my stomach, that is) and headed over to Cosi for a bit of studying. I just finished writing up one of the questions for my exam (we were provided some guidance questions from some of the professors) and now I am going to work on my paper a bit. So its 3:45 and I took my dog to the beach, went for a run, and did part of my homework. I am doing pretty good today and am quite pleased with myself, if you cannot tell.
Training Log
Time:  41.55 minutes  Distance:3.93 miles   Pace:  10:40min/mi
I am not too sure my exact pace and distance for today, so I did some guesstamation. I ran from the dog beach home, but did some alternate routes here and there. I also knew it was only a bit over 3 miles direct, so I ran north for 5 minutes and then back (like a 10 minute warmup). I did pass too 1 mile markers and could pace myself according to those...the first mile was 10:32 and the second 10:40. I feel like I ran the last mile or so a bit faster, but probably ran the first mile slower. So I picked the slower of the two pace times and just went with it. That would put me at 3.93 miles :)
The run was nice, coming home from the lake. I dont like running out one way and then back, where I pass the same stuff twice. This gave me the chance to run in one direction (towards home) for the 40 minute running time today. I felt pretty good the whole run, and cant complain much at all. Knee was good, weather was good, life is good :)
Progress Made
- Actually ran a smidge more than the recommended 40 minutes. What an athlete
- Knocked out a bit of studying, on Memorial day none the less!
- I have a pretty good idea how/where to do a 40 minute run from the lake, if Jeff feels like dropping me off ever again :)
