Would You Rather Search For A Needle Or A Key?

I now really understand what it means for searching for a "needle in a haystack". In fact, I think that searching for a needle in a haystack would be much easier than I did this evening. Somewhere along my run, through 3-4 inches of snow, in the middle of a blizzard, I dropped my keys. Yeah, I am that big of an idiot.

I pulled up an old route for 3 miles and headed out, and I was getting pretty close to home and it just came along too soon. I knew something was wrong. I pulled out my iPhone and realized I had not yet even gone 2 miles ... so there was no way the route would make 3 in total. In my confusion I somehow stopped the Runkeeper application and continued on ... revising my route. As I got closer to home I knew I was going to be short, but due to the fact that running in the snow was really hard and I had to go to the bathroom, I didnt care. Out of curiosity I pulled out my iPhone again (if I was going to be just a tiny bit short I would just run around the block). At this point I realized I wasnt even tracking my run. I get to my front door and realize I have no keys.

So while my run was short, I covered a lot of extra ground retracing my steps. My keys are literally just two keys on a keyring, like what is pictured. How easy do you think it is to find two keys somewhere in a 3 mile (or so) radius? Then add to that the fact that it is nighttime. Oh yeah, and the middle of a blizzard. A search for a needle in a haystack would have been more fruitful. I had to give it a shot and did some searching, but it was useless.

Running Log
Time:28:52   Distance:2.7mi   Pace:10:42

I wore the Yaktrax but still encountered some traction issues. Because they just have a small coil that lies on the surface of your shoe they just arent cut out for running in deep snow. It was better than nothing, but I struggled to get through those 2.7 miles. It was pretty challenging and my legs struggled. I can guarantee though the run was short I will be sore tomorrow ... it was like doing a crazy trail run or something! In the end, I'm glad I got a few miles in but sad that I had to be a dummy and lose my keys (then spend 20 minutes walking/running around looking for them in freezing temps while it was blizzarding out).

Dang!!! I did that once and low and behold several months later I randomly found my key as I was on a walk. But yes....a needle in a haystack would totally be easier.

That sucks, I'm sorry. Seriously that is my worst fear. Congrats to you getting out in that blizzard.

you and your keys!!! I bet if you go back on that route after the snow melts (if ever) you will stumble across them.
