Find Me On Race Day!

Many people have been asking how to find me along the race route. As an ineperienced Marathoner, I can only give guesstimates. My goal is to run with a pace group in the beginning, which will pace at 11:27 per mile. I plan on feeling awesome about 1/2 way through, which at that point I will slightly pick up my pace. Obviously this is not a sure thing! Pacing at 11:27 has me finishing at 5 hours, and I really want to finish under 5. (Not a lot under 5, 4 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds is fine with me!!!!).

The Chicago Marathon start-time is 8:00 am. It takes a while for 45,000 people to cross the start line, so my actual start-time will not be 8:00 am. Other reports I have seen have ranged from an extra 10 to 30 minutes of waiting until an individuals race may actually begin. So I am assuming I will start at 8:15. Its unlikely I will start before that, and for those looking for me ... if I start late, but you are already there - then odds are good you will see me. If I say I will start at 8:30, and I actually start at 8:15, people who like to press the limits of time might actually miss me :)

Here is a general guideline of what time I will cross each mile-marker.

Track Me On Race Day!
There was a glitch in the system, but its fixed. Register to receive my time updates delivered to your mobile or email throughout the race! Rumor is that these updates can often be quited delayed, so don't count on them as a way to find me throughout the race. By the time you get the update, its likely I am well past that particular check-point.

Training Log
Time:  40:00 time  Distance:3.67 miles   Pace:  10:54 min/mi
Since I didnt to the 40 yesterday, I did it today (instead of the suggested 30 minutes at "marathon pace"). I also had my Pilates class today, but made sure to restrict some of the movements that involved my back. I was going to go for a run tomorrow, but my schedule is filling up quickly ... including a pre-race massage ... and I think I might officially just kick-into full rest gear. Thats still something I am pondering over :(

I wish I would have found your blog sooner!! We could obsessed over the marathon together!!

regarding your question about the marathon gift.. My hubby wanted me to take pictures so he figured if he got me a phone with a camera it might be more likely to happen. So I think the gift was for him as well as me :)
