I Am Really Fast Today (Well, Fast For ME!)

Training Log
Time:  28:56 time  Distance:2.86 miles   Pace:  10:07min/mi
So, I just got home from my "30 minute run". I ended up pacing at 10:07, and that includes waiting for the longest stoplight ever and getting hit by a car. Yes, I said I GOT HIT BY A CAR.

As usual, I had this feeling that I didnt want to do my run today :) I dont like the shorter runs, I guess proving that I am definitly built more for distance than speed. After stalling as long as possible, I went out on my route (which often takes me a bit less than 30 minutes, but today that was fine with me). About 1/3 through my run I hit a stoplight, I dont know how long it was, but if it was a minute that wouldnt suprise me. I waited FOREVER. I kept thinking maybe I should stop my watch...but then I was sure the light would change...and then it wouldnt. After the light finally did change, I followed my normal route which takes me directly past Wrigley Field. I like running through there because its usually really quiet and the park is so nice - but I forgot to check if there was a game today ... obviously there is. So I had to run through swarms of people for about 1/3 of my run (the second 1/3). The crowd finally disappated as I got back into my neighborhood and I kept thinking of stopping early: my knees hurt a lot and I was having a bit of a tough time breathing. (I now realize that the breathing was a bit hard because I was obviously running faster than I ususally do!). I turned the corner for my final stretch home, and I was crossing an intersection (during my final 1/3 route) this guy decided to try to turn right. He sure did turn right - right into my legs! And it took him about 5 feet to realize he was hitting me. I landed forward on his hood, as he continued to drive toward me. All this time I am trying to backpeddle with my feet and pound on his hood at the same time.

Despite the fact that this seems to have been quite an unlucky run, I did have some positive outcomes:
1) I ran faster than my normal pace
2) My legs didnt get broken by a guy in a Ford Taurus

I consider myself pretty lucky, because my reflexes are actually extremely slow. I think if I had just been walking across the street when this guy started driving, both my legs would have been crushed. I think because I was running that my senses might have been elevated and my reactions a bit quicker. This is just a theory, but I do know that I dont normally move that fast in response to situations like that. In fact, I may have never moved that fast in my entire life :)
