And it was. Today's high reached 94, and I think it said 87 on my car themometer when we were heading home from the run ... which means, it was HOT. The run was tough, everyone was exhausted and tired. I do have to say it was a bit better than the last 10-miler, but considering that was the worst day of my life thats not saying a whole lot :) I can tell how hot iw was and how much of a drain it took out on my by the fact that I really havent been able to regain my appetite again - and I havent lost my appetite for a single second since training began! I couldnt eat breakfast after the run, and had to force down lunch and dinner just because I know I needed the nutrition. Imagine that!
I also had to take a nap, which is the first time I have really been that exhausted after a run. It would have really been a great nap had the dog not insisted on trying to keep me up between the hours of 3 and 4:30 trying to get fed her dinner. And if I had just sucked it up and fed her at 3, I wouldnt have had to go through an hour-and-a-half of trying to ignore her. Once she was fed, she left me alone and I slept for about an hour-and-a-half :)
Training Log
Time:  1:47:23 time  Distance:10 miles   Pace:  10:44min/mi
The run was rough. We were sweating, burning up, and couldnt stay hydrated. Suprisingly, we kept up our pace almost perfectly for the first 5 1/2 or 6 miles. This is unusual because running in that kind of heat generally slows you down. The average pace ended up being slower because we did drop a bit at the end, making our eventual pace 10:44. This is almost exactly the same as the pace for the last 10-miler, so there is some consistency to my running, which is ideal.
Progress Made
- Completed another 10-miler, again in super heat. Training in adverse conditions is all part of the plan and helps one build the strength/ability to run even longer distances in similar conditions!
