Friday Funnies

As I said, I have fortunately gotten my humor back (and glad to see many others have as well). This is a good thing, because in order to get back into two more months of training...I think I need a good sense of humor!

The Vegas Crew
I love Las Vegas, I am not gonna lie. Originally when I decided to do a marathon, I found the Las Vegas one and was smitten. But Team in Training didnt do Vegas ... so I decided on Chicago. In a strange twist of fate, I am now actually doing the Las Vegas Marathon! And, I have rallied my troops and we now have "The Vegas Crew". One TNT mentor (Danny) was already signed up for Vegas, so I can't say I had any influence on him...but our crew now consist of 7: Danny, myself, Patti, Beca, Kevin, Bradley and Allyson. With two on the fence - Cara and Lark ... if we can sell them we have 9 :) I honestly think that this trip is going to be awesome and am looking forward to my new "first" marathon.

Onto the Funnies...
Marathon Cheaters!
Mexican politician takes a shortcut
What were the clues?
1) The guy crossed the finish line in a windbreaker and pants ... and wasnt sweating. Despite the fact it was 60 degrees.
2) He ran 15 kilometers between the 20-kilometer and 35-kilometer marks) in 21 minutes. Thats 9.32 miles ... at a pace of 2.16 per mile.

Maybe he got tips from Rosie Ruiz, the winner (later disqualified) of the 1980 Boston Marathon?
What were the clues?
1) No pictures of her anywhere on the course before the finish line
2) Not one runner who finished within a few minutes before or after her recalled seeing her at any point of the race
3) Spectators claimed to have seen her jump from the crowd into the race shortly before the finish line

Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice...
And dont think Ms. Ruiz was an amatur at the marathon-cheat game. She got her qualifying time for Boston in the 1979 New York City Marathon - in which she rode the subway during the race.

Want a Chicago Marathon Medal?
Buy one on eBay! There are three up there right now ... and that might not be the end of it.

Looking for a cool race shirt?
Order the official "Michael Scott's Dunder Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Pro-Am Fun Run For The Cure" T-Shirt. (Too bad its not wicking)

Can't forget my somecards!

Training Log
Time:  39:48 time  Distance:4.88 miles   Pace:  9:57 min/mi
Head out for my second run AMM (After Marathon Meltdown). My body still feels "funny" a bit sore and tired. Tomorrow we are meeting by the lake to get the Vegas Crew on track for 26.2 in December ... so today was an easy run to keep me in gear for my "real marathon" :)

I have a streak of seven Las Vegas Marathons in a row...mostly due to my living in Vegas. I'll be continuing my streak again this year too. One nice feature for those who suffered through Chicago is that the New Las Vegas Marathon has water stations at EVERY mile with entertainment too. You're going to have a great time in Vegas! I'll be visiting your site regularly.
