The Injury Report

Starting a couple of weeks into training, I fell naturally into a pace group of 7 ladies: myself, Patti, Becca, Jodi, Kristin, Allyson & Ruth. Over the miles, many of us have taken turns at injuries and other obstacles that sidetrack our training. It's obviously not just my pace group suffering - I would say 30% of the people I am familiar with are either in physical therapy, out temporarily due to injury, or out permanantly due to injury! Its becoming more and more obvious why many believe training for a marathon to be one of the "stupidest" things an individual can aspire to do. We just lost another one this week, and I thought it was about time for an injury recap:)
Member Status Detail
Kristin Out for the Season Kristin was the first member we lost, and not due to training. After suffering some injuries in a car accident, recovery time took quite a toll on her mentally and physically and training was no longer feasable/desirable
Jodi Out for the Season Complaining of foot pain and what she referred to as a "club foot", Jodi sought professional consultation. Suprised with the diagnosis of a stress fracture, she regretfully pulled herself out - yet promises to become a member of our growing "Cheer Squad".
Ruth DL Ruth has a unique situation, recently bitten by a "love bug" she finds it hard to make our 7AM Sat runs. She swears she continues to train on her own, and that she is not lost forever. We anxiously anticipate her return.
Allyson DTD Allyson suffers from the common ailment - Runners Knee. She has been training through the pain and working to overcome her ailments.
Dawn DTD Dawn also has been blessed with a case of Runners Knees. Not yet up to "injury status", she continues to train and hope luck goes her way.
Becca Recovering Recently completing 8 weeks of physical therapy to correct shin splints, Becca has been feeling good and looks to have overcome her injury.
Patti Strong Patti has held strong through training and continues to amaze the rest of her hobbling pace group.

Training Log
Time:  20:00 time  Distance:1.88 miles   Pace:  10:30min/mi
I decided since it is so humid and muggy today to do my 20 minute run (the one that I should have done yesterday, but swapped my cross-training day) on the treadmill. I always give our gym too much credit I think ... I assumed that it would be properly air-conditioned due to the fact it is so muggy. When I got to the gym, the door was closed - this is a good sign. Our small gym often tries to go without A/C and instead open the doors and turn on the ceiling fans ... while I understand trying to conserve energy and save money, I think sweating your clients out may not be the best way of doing this. So anyway, the door was closed and I was happy. But the gym was not "cool" by any means. All the ceiling fans were on (there are like 10) and so was this big floor fan. I think the air was on, but it was probably set to 90 degrees or something :( About 5 minutes into my run I think I had already sweat off 10 lbs, by the end of it you would have thought I just came out of the shower. Oh well, I put in my 20 minutes - and did some strength training. And then when I walked out of the gym, it seemed as if the humidity had broken and it was actually quite comfortable outside. I guess I learned my lesson!
